Have you mislaid your keys lately or struggled to recall a name or detail that you need? That may or may not be a sign of Alzheimer’s.
I thought I’d share a few tests that you can use to see if this is just normal info overload or the actual start of something more serious. The tests are all pretty straightforward, quick and easy. Remember, memory loss can be related to other health issues. Don’t assume it’s Alzheimer!
Here’s my list:
- The GAS (Goal Attainment Scaling) – an 11 question, online quiz; this is the one I most often use.
- Self-Administered Geocognitive Examination (SAGE) – 15 question quiz, downloadable 5-page pdf. You also download how to score it here.
- Alzheimer’s Clock Draw Test – Draw a circular clock face by hand, with numbers and hands. Here’s a clock face to compare yours to (DON’T look until you’ve drawn yours). If it doesn’t look right, then followup with your doctor.
- Do You Know Your Risk for Alzheimer’s? (aka Dr. Oz’s Memory Quiz) is 4 questions. This memory quiz while apparently based of the US Department of Veterans Affairs (VAMC) St. Louis University Mental Status (SLUMS) examination, is for informational and entertainment purposes only.
Taking one of these tests whenever I feel I need to, puts my mind at ease. I hope they work for you.
