Have you said that lately? I hear people saying that … too often.
We are NEVER too old to make changes in our lives. Our minds retain the ability to adjust and change all of our life. The belief that we’re too old to change is based on the idea that your brain is like a machine and that it can wear out. Not so!!
Rather more recent research shows that our brains maintain the ability to build new pathways and learn new ways as long as we are alive. We might give up – that’s a different matter from not being able to learn and train ourselves to do new things or re-learn how to do something we used to do. It’s like building new pathways, from a barely visible trail to a main road to a super highway. We get to choose how strong and solid the pathway becomes.
So I’ll start. I have always wanted to be able to ride a bicycle no hands, like I see mostly young boys doing as they cycle down the street. I working it at every spring, once I’ve dusted off my bicycle and it’s had it’s spring tuneup. I usually I take a bike ride during my lunch hours.
Every spring, there’s a period of remembering, and I fairly quickly get back to the skill level I had the previous year. This summer I’ve had several successes that have been so encouraging for me, as I rode nearly ½ mile (1 km) without my hands on the handle bars. Yahoo! I seems to progress then fall back, and with repetition progress again.
So what do you want to learn or re-learn? Don’t put it off any longer.
Get started today!
P.S. Please send me a picture of your progress.
